In 2023, NC FCCLA will be offering two Competitive Event opportunities for members: STAR Events and State-Level Events. Members can only participate in one (1) Competitive Event during the conference. A $5.00 participant fee will be charged for all Competitive Event participants, regardless of the event type.

STAR Events
NC FCCLA will offer STAR Events listed in the 2022-2023 National FCCLA STAR Events Guidelines as listed below:

Specific event information to include event eligibility requirements, time procedures, specifications, and scoring rubrics can be found in the 2022-2023 STAR Event Guidelines in the FCCLA Portal. Participants should follow these guidelines, with the exception of the Online Orientation instructions. Participants will be required to view the state Competitive Event Orientation and submit their orientation form to their event room consultant at their competition time.

State-Level Events
State-Level Competitive Events are being offered for the first time at the State Leadership Conference this year. These events are designed to allow participants to demonstrate their college- and career-readiness skills in Family and Consumer Sciences and related occupations. These events will serve as an introduction to FCCLA's Competitive Events and require a shorter time commitment than STAR Events.
Recognition for these events will be consistent with STAR Event recognition processes, with the exception of announcing national qualifiers for these events. These events are not pre-requisites or preliminary events for any National FCCLA Competitive Event. Participants earning 1st and 2nd placement do not advance to a higher-level competition.
