State Leadership Conference

Deadlines

December 13, 2021
  • Registration Opens
    • Participants will register through the State Leadership Conference registration link in the FCCLA portal.
February 23, 2022
  • State Leadership Conference and STAR Event Registration Deadline
    • Participants in Baking and Pastry and Culinary Arts must be registered by February 11, 2022. 
    • Late registrations will not be accepted.
    • Event and/or level change requests will not be accepted after this deadline. Please ensure that your students are registered for the correct events and levels. (Level 1 - up to grade 8; Level 2 - grade 9-10; Level 3 - grade 11-12)
  • State Leadership Conference Hotel Reservation Deadline
    • Reservations will not be accepted after this date. Detailed information will be emailed to registered chapters to include steps to complete your hotel reservations for your chapter. See more information on the SLC Hotel Reservations page. 
March 15, 2022
  • State Leadership Conference and STAR Event Name Change, Substitutions and/or Cancellation Deadlines
    • Chapters may cancel their State Leadership Conference and STAR Event registration by this deadline, less a $25.00 administrative fee per attendee cancellation request submitted. Cancellation requests made after this date will not be honored.
    • If a chapter is requesting a cancellation and has a "no-show" fee from the Culinary Competition, the "no-show" fee will not be refunded and will remain on the invoice.
    • Any refunds issued for approved cancellations will be processed following the conference.
    • Please ensure that when requesting substitutions that participants are the same event level (Level 1, Level 2, or Level 3). 
    • Name change or substitution requests made on-site will require the $25.00 administrative fee to be paid in cash or credit card at the time of the request or participants will be ineligible to compete.
  • State Leadership Conference and STAR Event Payment Deadline
    • All invoices must be paid by this deadline. Payments may be made with credit card through the FCCLA portal. If payment is made by check, please ensure payment is sent to the correct address as stated on the invoice. NC FCCLA will not be responsible for checks sent to the incorrect address. 
    • Chapters who do not submit full payment on their State Leadership Conference and STAR Event registrations will incur a one-time $25.00 administrative fee applied to their invoice. 

Registration Rates

$75.00 per attendee to include STAR Event participants, student attendees, adviser attendees guests and/or chaperones. 

​Students and advisers must be affiliated BEFORE they can be registered as a STAR Event Participant for the NC FCCLA State Leadership Conference. If you're not sure how to complete affiliation, you can find tutorials and more information here.

Additional Registration Information

  • Refunds for chapters and/or registrants who are "no-shows" for the State Leadership Conference will not be honored. The chapter and/or registrant will still be responsible for all registration fees. Chapters will not be eligible to register for future NC FCCLA conference and/or meetings until the balance is paid in full. Failure to pay the invoice may also impact the chapter's ability to affiliate in the future. 
  • In the event that the Culinary Competition or State Leadership Conference is cancelled, or moved to a hybrid or virtual platform, registration invoices will be refunded and/or updated to reflect new registration fees, if applicable.
  • Chapters that are no longer allowed to travel due to school, public school unit, or local travel restrictions, NC FCCLA will accept cancellations submitted by March 21, 2022 (7 days prior to the State Leadership Conference) to be eligible to receive a refund, less a $25.00 administrative fee per chapter. A supporting letter on a school letterhead stating when the ban was implemented and signed by the principal or public school unit superintendent must be provided.. Any refunds issued by approved cancellations will be processed following the conference.
  • If the event remains an in-person conference, to ensure that anyone who feels unwell does not travel, a full refund will be issued to the participant's registration, less a $25.00 administrative fee per occurrence. Note that chapters will have the opportunity to substitute the individual's registration for another student, adviser, or guest without penalty if submitted in the FCCLA portal, with supporting documentation, by March 27, 2022.

Dress Code for SLC

Students attending the State Leadership Conference should be in proper dress code, as outlined below. 

  • Red, black, or white polo or button up shirt.
  • Black or khaki pants.
  • Black or khaki skirt or dress (no shorter than 2 inches above the knee).
  • Dress shoes or flats, no tennis shoes.​​​

​*The official red blazer is not required at the state level.


Advisers, guests and/or chaperons attending the State Leadership Conference should be in proper dress code, as outlined below:
  • Business professional
  • Jeans, t-shirts, athletic wear are NOT acceptable.

Steps to Register

1. Login to the FCCLA Chapter Portal
If you are a new or veteran FCS teacher moving to a school with an existing FCCLA chapter, and need assistance in accessing the Portal for your chapter, please complete this form.
​If you are a brand new chapter, and have never affiliated before, please click on the “First Time Affiliation” button on the FCCLA Portal homepage to request a new chapter. 
2. Click on the 'Meetings/Events' tab found on the dashboard.

4. Register Advisers, Students and Guests

Advisers and students MUST BE AFFILIATED to register, participate in STAR Events, and to attend the State Leadership Conference.

Please review the registration options below:
  1. Register Advisers – use this button to register affiliated advisers who are listed for your chapter.
  2. Register Students – use this button to register affiliated students who are listed for your chapter.
  3. Register Guests – use this button to register chaperones or other guests attending with your chapter. 
Special Events
​During the registration process, you will have the option to sign your chapter up for a special event/excursion for Tuesday, March 29th. Note that all chapter members must be signed up for the same event/excursion, and the chapter adviser(s) are required to attend with their chapters. Transportation is the responsibility of the chapter.
​
Special event/excursions are $30.00 per attendee and will include an activity and food to be held on Tuesday, March 29th from 9:00 pm – 11:00 pm.

Competitive Events
Student attendees may only register for one (1) STAR Event.

Students who are registering for Baking & Pastry or Culinary Arts will complete their events at the Culinary Competition on February 25, 2022, at Johnson and Wales University. Students must be registered to participate in either of these events by February 11, 2022.

NC Jr. Chef participants should only be registered for the NC Jr. Chef STAR Event if they have placed as a Top 8 Finalist. If a participant did not place as a Top 8 Finalist, they may register to participate in another STAR Event. Participants will be notified by February 9, 2022, if they have been selected as a Top 8 Finalist.

All other STAR Events will be held at the State Leadership Conference, March 28 – 30, 2022.

Chapter advisers and students should review STAR Event information found in the 2022 North Carolina STAR Event Guidebook, found on the NC FCCLA website, and the National FCCLA 2022 STAR Event Guidelines found in the FCCLA Portal.

Competitive Events Volunteer Opportunities
Students and advisers have the opportunity to serve as a volunteer with STAR Events. STAR Events cannot happen without the generous time given by our volunteers. Please ensure that you have selected to serve as a Competitive Events Volunteer.

When you choose to serve as a Competitive Events Volunteer, you will provide more information on which volunteer opportunity you’d like to assist with, rank 3 events in order of preference, and provide more information about your background to assist with placing you as a volunteer. 
5. Finalize Registration
The last screen of the registration process will provide you an overview of your registration to review. If you need to edit your registration you can click one of the registration process headers on the screen to go back to the section, you need to edit.

To confirm your registration, you will click the “Finish” button.

On the event registration screen, you will now see all attendees you’ve completed the registration process for. To finalize your registration, and create an invoice, you will need to select all attendees and select “Submit Registration”. You will see the status for these attendee’s update to say “pending”. When the invoice is paid in full, their status will change to “registered”.
6. Review and Pay Invoices
Invoices can be found on the “Invoice(s)” tab in the FCCLA Portal.

Advisers should review the invoice(s) generated after their registration has submitted to verify registration information. Payments may be made with credit card through the FCCLA Portal, or by calling the National FCCLA office. Please ensure check payments are sent to the address listed on the invoice.

Culinary Competition Payment Deadline – February 21, 2022
  • Payment must be made towards Baking and Pastry and Culinary Arts registered participants by this deadline. Participants that do not have payment made towards their culinary competition events will not receive medals or score packets at the Culinary Competition during the Closing & Recognition Session.

State Leadership Conference Payment Deadline – March 15, 2022
  • All invoices must be paid by this deadline. Chapters who do not submit full payment on their State Leadership Conference and STAR Event registrations will incur a one-time $25.00 administrative fee applied to their invoice.
